Spreadsheets and databases that have developed even though the original two application programs, making for a very different set of features that make them similar to. For example, to sort tables "records" and provide databases for research, while some of the formulas for calculating interest and other sums. Even if an advanced user can typically go through rotations for each program on the lot to satisfy everyone, but not things that makes the other, there are certain things that are easier to program than the others. To place all the advantages of electronic data interchange needs with the specialties of these two types of programs be familiar.

The biggest difference is how these two programs that search the data. A spreadsheet is easy access to a single cell, so that their data, but in the form of a table may have different types of information in the same column or row to have. In a structured database, ie, a column (field) contains the same information for each line. Each line is a file containing information on the same orUnit general sense, such as a patient. Many of the features that makes everyone does what is best based on this difference.

A spreadsheet is a good tool for the work especially to work mathematical calculations. A database is far beyond the information management. The main difficulty in using a spreadsheet is a database that you have a flat file must use the architecture with all the problems associated with it.

An excellent resource on this subject:

A database will be more "data such as names, information. Maybe a mailing list.
A spreadsheet is like a general ledger.
Excel is a program. You can an Excel database. It's easy. Just add their name to the first cell, the direction of the second mobile phone numbers for the third and perhaps e-mail to another. You have a database. You can use it to create a Word mail merge for mailing labels, perform / envelopes.
